Am I plumb........

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   We were getting one of the boys showers ready this past weekend with a piece of glass that was to shield the shower from the rest of the bathroom. I called the glass company and asked them about installing it and they assured me that anyone (i.e. me) could install it.   It was simply a piece of glass and two pieces of channeling. You glued the bottom channel piece onto the floor and long piece onto the wall and then slipped the glass in. Simple!  Or so they said.   After an hour of fiddling with the silicon caulk and a level I was finally ready to let it dry and then install the...

Look at the stars in the sky........

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   “Against all hope, Abraham believed, and so became the father of many nations..”   What a great example!  Abraham is promised a family, but he is old in age and has a hard time grasping that it could be possible!  He asked God, “How?”  And God took him outside the tent and told him to look at the stars. “Your offspring will be like the stars in the sky!”  What an incredible visible illustration of God’s ability to do the improbable and inconceivable!  No one would imagine that a man in his 90s would soon be the father of the greatest nation on earth—-one from which God’s own Son would be born!   Why did...

My life.....a mist

The Vineyard Speak to me today Lord Jesus. Examine what I am thinking, writing, planning, hoping—- and the very goals I have set before you. Remove any relationship, text, email, imagination or dream within me that would disappoint you!  Hold my feet to a holy fire.   Help me to see things and people from your point of view! Teach me to treat them better than they treat me and to serve them as if I were serving you.  Forgive me for allowing the words and actions of others to steal my  attention from you and your kingdom—keep whispering to me that my ultimate goal is to glorify you, and not to vainly “succeed”.  And more than anything, have mercy...

Storms have a purpose...

The Vineyard   Dear Friends:   Sometimes I write these blogs and then, after a few minutes erase everything and start over again. Such was my Saturday night. With these four young men living in my home, my life there are days I don’t know if I am coming or going! Our house is full of bathos and pathos.  But my work has become so much more enriched and tested because of it! I could write about what they are teaching me and reminding me of each day!  But since the fire that destroyed all I owned two years ago, I have similarly found myself “remembering”  things I once thought I knew quite well, but somehow forgot or have gave...

The only command.......

The Vineyard   Dear Friends:   When Jesus told us to follow a “new” command, which was, “Love one another as I have loved you”, He was laying down the only commandment He ever gave. All the other things He said and taught were basically, “If you do this, you will receive this”, and so on.  But the command He gave to His followers was that they were to love each other.   Two things are obvious. First, if we do love each other—-as He loved us—-we’re going to stand out and be noticed as a unique group.  And secondly, if we love others, our lives will be far less complex and burdensome and our hearts lighter.   When I...
