A spontaneous love....

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   After dinner tonight, something drew all of us (the boys and our guests)outside. Maybe it was just to enjoy the warm evening and the coming of summer, but before long e began throwing a frisbee around, and within a few minutes everyone was throwing the frisbee, competing to see who could catch the most, who could throw the farthest, and so on. For thirty minutes we were all engaged in a spontaneous time of running, laughing, showing our athletic prowess (or lack of) and, in general, just enjoying each other.   It was a totally  unpremeditated event that no one gave any thought or preparation to. It just “happened” because a frisbee was nearby...

Living a life worthy of the name...

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   Galatian 4:1-6  As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.  Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.  There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;  one Lord, one faith, one baptism;  one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.   We often talk about the need to being more like “The New Testament church”, as if that church had their act...

A servant---not a boss

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   Psalm 127:Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city,  the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.   This kind of puts life into perspective. Why do some of us work harder than the rest? Why  do some of us rise earlier than others?  Why do some of the same ones of us lose sleep worrying about our work, our time, our sacrifice?  I can attest that I work and rise early and do, regrettably, “worry” at times because of my hopes and dreams. I understand that...

A sheep of His pasture?

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?   My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.     He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.   The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day,   nor the moon by night.   The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121   We would all like to live knowing that He...

Do I listen?

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   A question to consider today: Do I listen? Most people do not. I have been one of them. It takes time and energy to listen—-it’s work. Most of us can talk and expect to be listened to, but when your mouth is open, you aren’t learning anything.   But listening is important, particularly in a church, and especially now. I realize some people will take advantage of my willingness to listen and some never shut up, but it’s worth the frustration. Those who come as campers or staff to my camp, and those that come to this church are worth listening to.  After all, Jesus said that if we were kind—-or listened-to the smallest child,...
