On despots and dictators.....

Dear Friends,   Every time I pick up  the newspaper (or the Bible for that matter) there’s always news about a dictator doing something very wrong.   Historically speaking, there are rarely “benevolent” dictators, and more often than not, the longer they rule the more corrupt, cruel and self-serving they become.    The problem with dictators like Venezuela’s Maduro is that because of the depths of their corruption, the blood on their hands and the millions of enemies they have made, it’s impossible for them to contemplate stepping down and going into exile. Somebody is going to find them and execute delayed judgment for their atrocities, or, worse, the international community will attempt to arrest them and bring them to...

Fill me!

I woke up very, very early a few nights ago, and as I often do, began to consider the chores and jobs I had to perform once I got out of bed. I considered my calendar, the meetings, deadlines, et al.  The mundane drudgery of life can oftentimes push me down, but I know that little eyes in my home are watching me so I am supposed to appear cherry and optimistic at all times.   So that night, I stopped my fretting and simply prayed, “Lord please fill me up, right now, with your Holy Spirit, and let me  be over-flowing with the “new life” that I want my sons and others that I meet to see today.  It...

Remembering the first time I loved.....

Dear Friends, I think sometimes of the first time I realized His amazing love for me and how I first loved of Him.  It was a time of great peace and joy and of unsurpassed certainty that He was in control… I had nothing and no one to fear. All things and anything were possible!   I loved Him—and therefore,  quite naturally, I was drawn to “copy” His love towards others.  I saw by His actions of love what real love was as well as the cheap imitation or the lesser sentimental expressions of affection, fondness, preference or appreciation of others that I had mistaken for real love. There were times associated with these deep revelations of His love that ...

Stigmata......

Dear Friends,   When I was five years old my mother accidentally shut the door in my right hand.  It created a moon shape scar on my middle finger—-it’s still there today. I will have it till the day I die.  It reminds me of that old red Chevrolet station wagon and my mom trying to handle four or five kids at one time.   Do you have a scars? From an accident…..or surgery…..or something really stupid you did as a kid?  If we live long enough we will have scars and they all tell a story.   At the end of the letter to the Galatians, Paul said this: “From now on let no one cause me trouble, for...

We need a revival.....

Dear Friends,   A friend recently shared with me a short story about a Welsh “revivalist” named Evan Roberts who preached around 1904. He was the man God used to bring over 100,000 souls to Jesus Christ!  But his message was so simple and the delivery so very short.    His message was as follows:   -Confess all your sins   -Remove anything doubtful from your life   -Give yourself completely to the Spirit—-and then speak and do all He requires of you   -Publicly confess Jesus Christ   He could preach for hours, it’s said, but he could also, if led by the Spirit, speak for only a few minutes. It was the short, brief message that sparked a...
