Oh, to be able to move mountains!

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   Jesus said more than one time, “Ask for anything, believing, it will be done for you”.   How many times have you prayed, believing this to be true, and your then your prayer was not answered?  Truthfully, I have prayed, believing (or at least thinking that I was believing) and my prayer did not seem to be answered.  It strikes at my faith.   Have you ever felt like He was not listening to your prayer, or that Christ meant that prayers would be answered only for these twelve men, or, although you won’t admit it to fellow Christians, that this idea that you can ask for anything is all a bunch of baloney??  ...

Following the cloud........

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   I was reading in the book of Numbers recently about the Israelites in the wilderness with Moses.  The bible says that from time to time God wanted them to move from where they were, to a new location—and for no apparent reason.   But the Israelites packed up and moved each time the cloud moved.  Sometimes they stayed in the same place one day, and at other times it might have been weeks: but they were ready to move as God moved.   We often focus on how stubborn and rebellious the Israelites were, but they were commonly obedient.  How many of us are willing to pull up our “tent stakes” and familiar connections, leave...

Against you only..............

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   Psalm 51   “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.   Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.   Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.   Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me,...

Why don't we talk about this?

The Vineyard Dear Friends, Why did people flock to hear John the Baptist preach? Why did the religious phonies of his day also come to get baptized? It was, according to John, to escape the judgement of hell. So why was hell such a hot topic for thousands of years, and now a topic we avoid so much? It’s been said that death, sex and hell are three things most churches gloss over or avoid. What might surprise you is that no one in the Bible talked it more about more or described it better than Jesus. Again, why is this? And why did Jesus talk about hell so much and give far more descriptions of hell than heaven? In...

The little donkey

The Vineyard Dear Friends,   I resent pride in others, or how easily some wilt when they are ignored, and how some others just “give up”, when they feel that their efforts are not fully appreciated.  I know these things when I see them, and when Christian men, in particular are so puerile, I want to have nothing to do with them.   Yet, as I honestly assess my own responses to rebukes or lack of appreciation, I realize that this childish behavior still shows itself in my life. Yes, I see it clearly, at times, and I am at a loss to explain how it can still be in my heart after all I have seen and been through!...
