A boyhood treasure almost lost.....

The Vineyard Dear Friends:   Today I had to take the two younger boys to the doctor. They had to leave school early, so they were elated. We drove to the doctor’s office, and after it was over we went next door to an “Ingles” grocery store. We spent twenty minutes shopping, but this time I let them each have a cart and “help” me shop. Of course they picked up a lot of junk food, stuffed animals, and things we did not need, but they had a great time—even though I made them put much of it back.   We then drove to an old country store where I allowed them to each purchase one snack. Again, this is...

When people join together and pray.....

The Vineyard Dear Friends:   I read the story about how Peter was put in jail by Herod, and then how the  Christians prayed for Peter.  The background was that James, the brother of John, was just killed by Herod, so these folks were praying mightily.   And then, of course, the miracle happened. God answered their prayers and Peter was miraculously freed from prison by an angel and walked to the house of the folks that were praying for him. He knocked on the door, as they were praying for him, and the girl answering the door was so shocked that she left the door locked, and Peter outside(!) as she ran to tell the fellow believers that Peter...

The glory of God filling me............

The Vineyard Dear Friends:   Ezekiel 43: 1-5  “Then the man brought me to the gate facing east,  and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters, and the land was radiant with his glory…..The glory of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east.  Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.”   Some moments these visions of the glory of God remind me of where I came from (the mind of God) and my destiny (the eternal house of God).  I yearn for this more and more, and...

When business gets in the way with ministry....

The Vineyard Dear Friends:   Today was one of those days that I got “nothing accomplished”. That’s not to say that I did not work or “do” something, but my agenda and plans where shot because of interruptions, surprises, visitors, unexpected problems with our on-line bank every imaginable hurdle to me keep me from getting the things done that I felt should or “had” to do.   But now it’s the end of the day and I am writing this little essay.  Yes, I missed my workout, I did not answer every email and I did not return each phone call. I did not reach my personal goals with the camp and I failed to take care of all the...

The big lie..........

The Vineyard Dear Friends:   Today David seemed to be speaking to directly to me when he spoke in Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”   The great thing to remember about verses like this, is that when I read them and chose to pray and believe that are as true for me as they were for David, or Paul or John, I must also consider the condition of the heart those that wrote those words. When David wrote these words he believed them because he was living a life that was pleasing to God, and he was humbly seeking God’s favor.    I have...
