Do I deny Him?

Before Christ was betrayed, Peter vowed to never deny Jesus.  I believe that he never intended to  at that point.  He knew who Jesus was and, surrounded by his friends, and with Jesus, I think he would have heroically died with Jesus. But it was the subtle denial that caught him off guard.  He did not deny that Jesus was the Messiah, it was something different. It was the annoying suggestion that he personally knew Jesus, being asked from folks that really did not matter to Peter; so he lied about his association with Jesus. He  also might have also recalled that he had just caught the ear of the cousin of one the girl’s who accused him on being...

He never gets His feelings hurt..

Jesus said that “if you love me, keep my commandments.”     My sons are not keeping my commandments.   “Make your bed, brush your teeth, take a shower once a day (and use soap or shampoo), empty the trash and empty the dishwasher.”  With God as my witness, these are the only chores assigned to these boys.     And we only have three “commandments”: Don’t lie, keep your promises, and (the newest one) do not mutter when you walk away from me.   Now, in my opinion, these are not burdensome or onerous requirements, but after four years, you can’t imagine the drama,  we still endure over these simple chores and three rules——every single day.   One of...

Spirit and Truth

“You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John 4:22-24, NIV)   Did you ever notice how Jesus did not always speak “nice”, and by that I mean that He did not beat around the bush.   By our standards He was not politically correct or careful with His words. He could be quite surgical in His words and targeted people...

Breaking bread.........

“When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”   They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.” Luke 24, 30-35, NIV Today’s...

Managing the little things first....

“Now He was also saying to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and this manager was reported to him as squandering his possessions.  And he summoned him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’  And the manager said to himself, ‘What am I to do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg.  I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from the management people will welcome me into their homes.’  And he summoned each one of his master’s debtors,...
